Matt Dwyer has extensive experience in materials innovation and development, holding leadership positions at Patagonia where Matt leads a team of engineers, scientists, and textile designers. Matt has successfully implemented corporate innovation strategies to improve product performance while reducing environmental impact. In addition, Matt has experience in new product development and technology management at W.L. Gore & Associates. Matt currently serves as a board member at the Organic Cotton Accelerator and Textile Exchange. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Lehigh University.
Lilly has been working with Surfrider in Canada for 8 years, beginning as the Chapter Manager for the Pacific Rim Chapter on Vancouver Island. Last year, she also completed her Master of Arts at the University of Victoria in the Political Ecology Lab. Currently, Lilly is the Regional Manager of Surfrider Canada, supporting the network’s advocacy and volunteer network. In her spare time, she loves surfing, diving, writing, and getting into misadventures.

Dr. Jiaying Zhao (she/her/hers) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability at UBC, Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Sustainability, and UBC Sauder Distinguished Scholar.
Dr. Zhao is a faculty affiliate of the Stone Centre for Wealth and Inequality at the Vancouver School of Economics and of the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Zhao is also an invited researcher at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at MIT. She is a member of Canada’s Financial Literacy Research Sub-Committee, Research Advisory Group of the OECD’s International Network on Financial Education, and a public profile expert with the UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab.
Justin has worked collaboratively with communities in British Columbia, Australia, and Ecuador to foster economic growth, sustainably manage natural capital, and build governance capacity. His background in land use planning, mediation, decision analysis, and project management have lead him to work in the environmental assessment process, treaty negotiations, academic, private and non-profit sectors. In prior assignments, he has developed social research tools, advised governments, lead and supported community planning projects, and developed corporate social responsibility programs for global commodity firms.
